About Camargue Horses:

The Camargue Horse is an ancient breed of horse indigenous to the Camargue region in southern France, where they live semi-wild in the marshes and wetlands. Camargue horses are born dark brown or black, but gradually turn grey as they mature, with most becoming completely white-grey by age 4-7. These hardy horses have lived in the harsh wetland environment for thousands of years, developing strong hooves that can handle wet, marshy terrain. They typically stand 13-14 hands high and are known for their stamina, agility, and calm temperament. Camargue horses are used by the 'gardians' (French cowboys) to herd the famous black bulls of the region. They're excellent swimmers and can gallop through water with ease. The breed is considered one of the oldest in the world and is protected by the French government. These horses are symbols of the wild, romantic landscape of the Camargue!
